Saints of the Living God, GREETINGS!
It is another week, and we thank and rejoice
in the Living God, our Heavenly Father,
through the Lord Jesus Christ, for His
provision, love, care, and his indwelling
peace in us by the Divine Person of the Holy
Spirit.
Main Bible Scripture:
John 20 v 14-16
Other Associated Scriptures: John 10 v 3,
5, 1Corinthians 14 v 10, Luke 3 v 22, Mark 1
v 11, Matthew 17 v 5, Mark 9 v 7, 2
Corinthians 5 v 16 and so on.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, in the Name of
our Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for
another week of divine health, divine peace,
divine provision and divine wisdom and
revelation of God, the Father of spirits. We
come today, this very hour, in our own
accord, to feed our born-again spirit
beings with the rich nutrient of God’s Holy
Word. We agree that your Word is the truth.
We trust the Holy Spirit to bring the light of
God’s Word into our minds and the
direction of that Word into our spirits. We
trust you, the Lord Jesus Christ, that we will
be doers of your Word and not hearers,
readers or speakers only. In Jesus Name.
Amen
Theme/Subject: His Voice/His Word
I once heard that circumstance makes
things precious. Thirst makes a glass of
water precious. Hunger makes a loaf of
bread precious. For us who are born-again,
Christ Jesus is precious to us. For Mary
Magdalene, Christ Jesus was precious to
her because He had cast out seven demons
out of her (see Luke 8 v 2). Christ Jesus was
so precious to Mary that one day she
brought an alabaster jar of expensive
perfume or fragrant oil and she stood at
Jesus’ feet behind Him weeping; and she
began washing Jesus’ feet with her tears
and wiped them with her hair (see Luke 7 v
36-39). When someone is precious to us;
we bring to such a person our best. In the
natural, the best that Mary had to offer was
that expensive perfume. Jesus Christ was
so precious to Mary that she brought her
best to Him. It did not stop there, Mary also
committed her heart or spirit to the Lord
Jesus to the point that after Jesus’ body was
put in that tomb it was Mary who stood
outside by the tomb weeping and she
stooped down and looked into the tomb to
look for the body of her Lord. When she did
this, she saw two angels in white sitting,
one at the head and the other at the feet of
where His body had lain.
pg. 1
The angels said to her – “Woman, why are
Jesus meant what He said to them and His
you weeping?”
Mary said to them, “Because they have
taken away my Lord, and I do not know
where they had laid Him.” When Mary
had said this, she turned around and saw
the Resurrected Jesus standing there,
and she did not know that it was Jesus
(see John 20 v 14). The Resurrected Jesus
said to Mary, “Woman, why are you
weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Mary,
supposing the Resurrected Jesus to be the
gardener, she said to Him, “Sir, if You have
carried Him away, tell me where You have
laid Him, and I will take Him away.” The
Resurrected Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She
turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” which
means Teacher. Please pause and reflect!
Now, why didn’t Mary recognise the
Resurrected Jesus when she first saw Him?
This is because Mary for all her effort did
not go to the tomb to look for the living
body of her Lord but she looked for the
dead body of her Lord. Her effort was
clouded by unbelief and overwhelming
grief or sorrow and not by faith. Earlier in
John 16 v 22, Jesus said this to His followers
including Mary – “Therefore, you now
have sorrow; but I will see you again and
your heart will rejoice, and your joy no
one will take from you.”
followers including Mary should have acted
upon what He said to them that He would
see them again even though He said to
them they would crucify Him in Jerusalem
where He was heading. It was upon those
words He had spoken to them that the
angels and the Resurrected Jesus asked
Mary the same question –“Woman, why
are you weeping?” Angels of the Lord only
know the Word of God and the two angels
Mary saw knew that Jesus has informed His
followers just before He entered Jerusalem
to be crucified that He would see them
again and their hearts will rejoice, and their
joy no one will take from them. The angels
knew this, so they asked Mary - –“Woman,
why are you weeping?” In other words,
did you believe what your Lord said to you
just before He travelled to Jerusalem? Of
course, Mary, like the rest of the disciples
failed to believe or act upon those words
Jesus spoke to them regarding His
resurrection. If the disciples including Mary
had believed what the Lord Jesus had said
to them regarding His resurrection; the
thought of going to the tomb would not
have been an option. This is because you
do not meet your loved ones who are alive
in the tomb. Do you? The disciples
including Mary failed to act upon Jesus’
Word. To believe is to act upon the Word of God.
one will take from you.” The Resurrected
Just as today, many of the believing ones
fail to act upon the Word of God that says
by Jesus’ strips or wounds we are healed
(see Matthew 8 v 17, 1Peter 2v 24). Just as
today, many of the believing ones fail to act
upon the Word of God that says that in
Christ; they are holy, they are blameless and
they are without reproach in the sight of
the heavenly Father (see Colossians 1 v 22,
Ephesians 1 v 4). Interestingly, the first words that came out
from the lips of the Resurrected Jesus to the
first person He encountered, Mary
Magdalene, were in the form of questions.
John 20 v 15 recorded the first time the
Resurrected Lord Jesus spoke to a person
after His resurrection from the dead and
that person was not Peter, it was not John,
it was not James but that person was Mary
Magdalene. But His first words to Mary
were wrapped in questions. The
Resurrected Jesus said to Mary, “Woman,
why are you weeping? Whom are you
seeking?” The first question the
Resurrected Jesus asked Mary was
designed to refer Mary back to what He
said to them in John 16 v 22 before He was
crucified which reads “Therefore, you now
have sorrow; but I will see you again and
your heart will rejoice, and your joy no
Jesus asking Mary that question was not to
humiliate her but it was to re-emphasised
to her that His Words must be believed or
act upon. Had Mary acted on those words
she would not be standing outside of the
tomb weeping rather she would be
rejoicing because Jesus said to them He
would see them again. Well, He did. To us,
the believing ones today, the Word of God
teaches us that Jesus will come back the
second time (see Acts 1 v 9-11). I pray that
you are certain, ready and prepared for His
second coming.
The second question that the Resurrected
Jesus asked Mary was “Whom are you
seeking?” Indicating that Mary was seeking
her Lord at the wrong place. She was
seeking the living from the dead. And she
did that because of her overwhelming
sorrow coupled with unbelief. Today, you
cannot find the Resurrected Jesus in a new
age programme, you cannot find Him in
religion, you cannot find Him in a so called
multi-faith. But you can find Him where the
two or three meet together in His Name
virtually or in persons. You can find Him in
the Holy Written Word of God.
I like to point your attention to this fact and
that is when the Resurrected Jesus asked
Mary those questions He addressed her as
‘Woman’. The two angels also addressed
her as ‘Woman’. At this time, even though
the Resurrected Jesus had spoken to her
yet Mary still could not recognise her Lord’s
voice and she supposed Him to be the
gardener. She addressed Him as ‘Sir’. Never
addressed the Lord Jesus Sir. He is your
Lord! Then the Resurrected Jesus said to her,
“Mary!” He calls His own sheep by name
and His sheep follow Him for they know His
voice (see John 10 v 3-4, 14). When He
mentioned her name, she recognised and
identified Him as her Rabboni, her Teacher.
Of course, it was Mary who sat at His feet
listening and absorbing His teaching when
He visited their home (see Luke 10 v 38-42).
It is interesting that Mary recognised the
Resurrected Jesus voice as her Teacher. All
the times she sat listening to His teaching
made her knew His Voice. She recognised
and identified Him by His Voice. For His
voice is Himself. His voice is His Word. And
the Word became flesh and lived among us.
Saints, continue to know Jesus by His Voice,
His Word and not by any kind of
experiences. Experiences can fail you but
His voice, His Word, will never fail you to
recognise Him.
Shalom!
To God be the glory forever and ever in
Jesus Name by the power of the Holy
Spirit. I know that you are blessed by
these teachings, why don’t you share
them with others to be a blessing also?
It is also important to get your feedback
and how together, through these
teachings we are growing in faith in
God’s Holy Written Word.
